Leaving Grade Three For the Sea
Oh, take me along on a sailing ship,
And I’ll make some tales of the sea.
I’ll trade this desk for a quarterdeck,
When I leave grade three for the sea, boys.
When I leave grade three for the sea.

I’ll read the breeze, chart my ABC’s.
Count the stars in the galaxy.
Many schools of fish are my only wish.
When I leave grade three for the sea , boys.
When I leave grade three for the sea.

I’ll sing sea shanties, paint the seven seas.
Climb the mainmast for PE.
No more white boards when I’m on board,
When I leave grade three for the sea, boys,
When I leave grade three for the sea.

Of all I learned about in school,
The most useful thing I found,
Was not a law or property,
But the simple short Ä• sound.

If I finally get it,
When I figure it out,
“Oh, I see,” I could cry,
Instead Oic I shout.

Third-Grader-To-Be
I’m a third-grader to be, to be.
For grade three I’m ready, ready.
No more grade two for me, for me.
For I’m a third-grader to be, to be.

Straightclear
Our teacher tells us to,
Sit up straight,
Form a straight line at the door,
Keep our handwriting straight.
Use a straight edge to draw straight angles.
Our teacher also says,
“Straighten up, or you’ll go straight to the office.”

Tutti’s Tutu
Each Tuesday Tutti wears a tutu to school,
She’s not in a dance class or ballet.
When asked why she wears a tutu, Tutti says,
"Because it’s Tutu Tuesday today.”

How Come?

How come teachers call them blackboards,
When most are green or white?
How come teachers call reading, writing, and arithmetic the Three-R-s,
When only one starts with R?
How come teachers call it schoolwork,
When learning is supposed to be fun?
How come teacher say the school bell rang,
After a buzzer buzzed?
How come teachers say put on your thinking caps,
When hats aren’t allowed to be worn in class?

Just wondering.

Antonym of Antonym

I know no synonym of synonym,
But I do know an antonym of antonym.

clearPlayground Balls
Yellow balls are for kicking.
Red balls are for bouncing.
Don't kick the red balls.
I never play with the basketballs.
And that's all the balls on the playground.

Don’t Write in Books!

Never ever write in a book,
Teachers say again and again.
Then an author came and wrote her name,
In a book with a Sharpie pen.
