When I first started teaching in California I noticed a few differences right away. For one, my grade school had for hallways, just covered walkways between building. The classrooms had no coat closets either, since heavy coats and boots weren't necessary. It saved a lot of recess time in winter not having to bundle up for recess. Many students wore shorts and T-shirts to school every day. Their lunchboxes and sweaters went in their chubbies.
Still, I missed those snowy recesses, when kids rolled giant snow boulders, made snow angels, stomped their names on the soccer field or played Fox and Geese. But,
Brrrr!, standing on the playground for recess duty was certainly cold.
