Teacher's Pets
Teacher's Pets
For lunch we ate the hot dogs,
That chased the copy cats,
That caught the computer mouse.
That worried the spelling bee,
That stung the early birds,
That gobbled the book worms,
That they stuffed into the hot dogs,
That we ate for lunch.
Ick!

When I first started teaching in California I noticed a few differences right away. For one, my grade school had for hallways, just covered walkways between building. The classrooms had no coat closets either, since heavy coats and boots weren't necessary. It saved a lot of recess time in winter not having to bundle up for recess. Many students wore shorts and T-shirts to school every day. Their lunchboxes and sweaters went in their chubbies.
Still, I missed those snowy recesses, when kids rolled giant snow boulders, made snow angels, stomped their names on the soccer field or played Fox and Geese. But, Brrrr!, standing on the playground for recess duty was certainly cold.

A few readers who have recently bought the Elevator Family books have written to tell me how many grammatical, spelling, and punctuation mistakes they've found in the books. I am truly sorry for this. When I wrote and self-published the first books several years ago, I was careless with proofreading. Recently, I've gone back and carefully reviewed the first books so they are now error-free. That said, if any reader still finds a mistake, please write and let me know. A grammatical, spelling, and punctuation error in a published book is an abomination.

An excellent picture of Pencil Princess sent to me from a girl who read Classroom at the End of the Hall. I bet the princess is from Pennsylvania.

Yellow and blue gives you green.
Purple blend blue and red.
But I like mixing all paints,
So I get black instead.

It's been fun and rewarding taking a break from writing books to focus on writing plays and submitting them to licensing companies and play magazines. I can't wait to see them in print and produced on stage. I've enjoyed attending plays throughout my adult life, especially in London. Perhaps some of that seeped into my bones.

A mother once sent me this picture of MVP: Magellan Voyage Project that she had run through the washer. She wanted me to replace it. Hmm.
