Currently, I’m working on an early chapter book, The Very Tall Teacher, a project that I’m especially excited about. The story follows Jenny’s second-grade class and their remarkable teacher, Miss Annapurna Biggypedagog, who stands 111 feet tall. Each morning, she swings open the classroom roof so she can instruct her students.
My hope is that The Very Tall Teacher can join the pantheon of classic American tall tales alongside Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, and John Henry, which sorely lacks any female heroes.

While waiting for a flight home.
He said that he'd make it,
To my school play tonight.
Dad phoned from an airplane,
Somewhere in the air.
Then he gave his promise,
Tonight he would be there.
Dad phoned from the airport.
His plane had landed late.
The time was six-thirty.
My play began at eight.
Dad phoned from a taxi,
Stuck in a traffic jam.
He said I was important.
I said I know I am.
Dad phoned from our kitchen.
He told me not to worry.
Ten minutes till show time.
I said he better hurry.
When the curtain went up,
On stage I searched the place,
As I spoke my first line,
I saw Dad’s smiling face.
