Six Feet

Two Hula-Hoops side-by-side,
How far four-square courts are wide.
Two giant steps, a gym mat,
Our teacher wearing a hat.
The height of the monkey bars,
The width of our parents’ cars.
Ninety Legos in a row,
Twelve of our shoes heel to toe.
A bathtub, the refrigerator,
My bunk bed, an alligator.
By this time we sure can tell,
How far is six feet very well.

I enjoy reading funny poems,
From Ogden Nash to Roald Dahl,
But of the poets that I read,
Anonymous is best of all.
Each time I read a funny poem,
With Anonymous below it,
I wonder why she’s still unknown.
Who is this wonderful poet?
Half Face
Half Face
In this time of Stay-in-Place,
And we all wear a mask,
I can see just half a face.
What‘s behind them I ask?
Are they smiling or wearing frowns?
Do the cheeks have dimples?
Do teeth wear braces, or gold crowns?
Do the chins have pimples?
Does he have a bushy beard?
Does a ring pierce her nose?
Are the lips red? Are they sneered?
Perhaps a mustache grows.
Yet behind every mask I see,
Be the face old or young.
I fear they’re snarling right at me,
And sticking out their tongue.

U
U
No matter how much thinking I do,
There is no word that ends with U.
U starts many words we use,
It always trails after Q’s.
Side by side makes a W.
And that letter ends quite a few.
But who knows a word that ends in U.
Do you?
